The Contracting Team provide NHS Acute contract management support to PCT Contract Leads.
The Contracting Specialist is supported by two Contract Managers, one Contract Manager has the lead on contract documentation and quality issues and the other Contract Manager leads on project planning and liaises with the Information Team on the development of contract monitoring packs. The team work closely together, leading on a cluster of PCTs/Commissioners in relation to a defined group of provider organisations. The team can support PCTs to manage secondary care contracts more effectively by providing ‘knowledge based’ information in partnership with the Information Team including comparative analysis of contracts or benchmarking analysis and performance monitoring, support in negotiation and help PCTs and Providers resolve any contract related disputes. Added benefits that derive from this role include the ability to represent associate commissioners and apply intelligence gained from other contracts particulary in the area of contract documentation and the application of data standards.
Key areas for contracting to Support PCTs
- Assist PCTs to develop a consistent approach to contract negotiations, enabling PCTs to become strong, powerful commissioners.
- Support the communication between Co-coordinating and Associate PCTs
- Support PCTs in developing strong contract management knowledge and expertise
- Share and disseminate good practice
- Disseminate information from the Department of Health and NHS North West
- Identify any risks and concerns regarding the new standard contracts
- Highlight changes and decisions made by parties that may impact on the business of another party
- Facilitating compliance with the national contracting timetable

Carole has the responsibility for ensuring that CISSU provides contract management support and performance monitoring, in liaison with Information colleagues. Working with coordinating and Associate PCTs to develop consistent approaches to contract development and management in line with PCT requirements and National Guidance. |

Nadine is the CISSU lead on contract documentation and quality issues and has lead responsibility for managing contracts working with the coordinating PCTs for Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust. Nadine works closely with all stakeholders to ensure their needs and expectations are fully met by establishing consistent standards. |
CISSU Contracting Leads
CISSU has set up a lead and buddy system for NHS contracts to ensure that if any member of the team is unavailable there will be a second member of the team in support with knowledge of each contract.
